We used to host with GoDaddy. After several updates from our software provider, we were getting Error 500 intermittently. Phoning round several ISP's Bluehost appeared to know of the problem, and suggested their Cloud Hosting service would cure the problem.

It didn't. In fact, it transpired that Bluehost Cloud service operated on obsolete, and no longer supported version of the operating system, MySQL server and PHP.

After 6 months of support calls, Bluehost finally admitted that the Cloud hosting service was not what we needed, and we would have to migrate to a VPS (bait & switch). We were given a "special" support number to call VPS support directly.

Then after migrating, we found the system, which we had to upgrade, using their supplied WHM and cPanel services, to the latest versions of software, wouldn't work at all.

Their "special" supports attitude was that it was a VPS and it was now our problem to support it.

After 28 hours of troubleshooting and debugging, we identified that it was Bluehost installed code, that we were neither told about nor gave them permission to load, was causing the problem.

It was resetting the service to look for an older software handler.

Once we located and deleted the code, the service operated as expected.

Again, after calling the "special" VPS support line to ask why, the response was "that code is on all of our systems.

So, anyone using a Bluehost server expecting to be able to run Wordpress on PHP 7+ beware. They reset the Apache Handler back to PHP 5.6 and the only way to fix it is to delete the Bluehost plugins in the mu-plugins folder under WordPress and edit the .htaccess file to take the handler out.

Better still, don't use Bluehost.

Reason of review: Bait & Switch and poor service.

Monetary Loss: $3500.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Bluehost Cons: Being lied to, Treated like a fool, Dealing with support agents that only read from a pre-set menu, Having my clients yell at me because of bluehost issues.

We are also getting the same error for the last 5 months and even after multiple chats and tickets, they issue still persists. I am literally fed-up with the B!!Sh!t service.

But unable to change hosting as we are tight on budget.

I was trying some other way to report to the Endurance/bluehost superior officers of this and stumbled upon this. If anyone has a valid email which gets directly to CEO or other top level management teams please share, thanks.

WOW use to get great customer service waited just a few minutes! Now I have to spell my business of which they never understand!

Then wait 45 min to one hour for someone to call me back which often doesn't happen. Then I get someone overseas I cant understand! Never get my issue resolved.

Getting too big for their britches! Poor poor customer service these days.

They will email you a token which generally gets a fairly fast response. However, I have premium service so I guess it depends on what you purchase. But the voice recognition system is funky.
